Rackspace’s Cloud Sites is an
awesome platform. I can host windows or Linux based applications simply and
reliably. It is nearly bullet proof. For my small business or non-profit
clients, the fact that the bills are low is great, but the true genius behind
the platform is that we can avoid the ‘failure by success’ syndrome. You know
the one, your website gets mentioned and a mob of eager customers flood into
your site, then your server falls over just when the most people are looking. It
just doesn’t happen with the cloud. Saved my butt many, many times. As a subscriber, provider or both. The two have varing issues i.e. the nigeria broadband still fall short of what is necessary to access an asset in the cloud. I accept we are experiencing granula improvement. There are other issues other than the obvious i.e. infrastructure electricity etc. As a provider, the calculation will be existing cloud issues plus those problems known to us (see above) then plus lack of privacy and data protection . This trend is lending traction to the market for thin clients, as they prove to be highly economical in the long run. Therefore, recession in effect, amplifies the technology’s inherent attractiveness as it brings to the fore benefits, such as, reduction in the cost of operation and maintenance of the entire IT network.

Growth in the worldwide thin clients market is also fashioned by a range of environmental benefits that thin clients offer, including efficient use of energy and less use of raw materials. Thin clients are also the growing phenomena across the corporate world, as companies increasingly opt for providing their employees, just the basic systems required for processing their assigned tasks. The much-awaited revolution in enterprise computing is now close at hand, thanks to the proliferation of cutting edge technologies, such as, virtualization, which is helping push thin clients into the mainstream enterprise business.

Europe and Asia collectively account for a major share of the worldwide thin clients market, as stated by the new market research report on Thin Clients market. The Asia-Pacific thin clients market displays a strong appetite for growth, thanks to the continuous infrastructure development and business expansion in the region, especially in the emerging markets of China and India.

Re: Cloud computing and EMC

A great post introducing EMC---a continuously growing company and an enviable portfolio really.

Re: Oracle cloud hardware does incredible numbers

This video clearly lays out Oracle's definition of Cloud Computing http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Re: cloud computing and eBay

We are definitely working diligently in this space...Evan Bradley, eBay Cloud Computing Product Manager

Re: What is a private cloud?

read more....ERROR

Re: Google cloud computing apps get certification for US government use

This is going to be a major milestone in the cloud privacy debate. I agree with Benioff that we are entering the second generation of cloud computing. Companies have to adapt to the market changes. In order to meet the new market demands, at Logicalis, we launched the Logicalis Enterprise Cloud to meet the growing needs of our clients. Industry analysts forecast a rapid formation of cloud offerings, with IDC predicting the cloud services market topping $42 billion by 2012, and Dataquest predicting that between 28 - 37 percent of all server shipments by 2012 will be for cloud building. The Enterprise Cloud is a natural extension to Logicalis' expertise in the design and implementation of highly virtualized computing, storage and networking infrastructures, as well as its investments in enterprise-class managed services.

If you'd like more information, a press release is herehttp://www.us.logicalis.com/news-and-events/news/...
